Milašinović Palace
On an engraving by Pierre Eugene Grandsire (1825-1905), it is possible to see a Baroque palace with a belvedere in the lower zone of Herceg Novi, near the quay. The palace is known as the house of the Milašinović family, although it is also connected to the Mandić family of Herceg Novi. At the end of the 18th century, the Milašinović family had many seamen among its members. According to local folklore, the house was built by the father of Saint Leopold Mandić. Saint Leopold Bogdan Mandić was born in1866 in Herceg Novi and died in 1942 in Padua, Italy. He spent almost all of his adult life in Padua. He was canonised as a saint by Pope John Paul II in 1983. His feast is celebrated on May 12.
By subsequent modificatons the palace has changed its original appearance, although it has preserved many stone sculpture work elements, including characteristic Baroque frames for doors and windows, a balcony and a stairway.
